Frequently Asked Questions

Bee Products - Allergies
Bee products are not recommended for people suffering from allergies or asthma. If in doubt, consult your healthcare professional.

Capsules - What is the encapsulating material?
Encapsulating material is a naturally inert material used to keep powders free-flowing to ensure the active ingredients remain evenly dispersed throughout the product. Inert means it does not react with the other ingredients and is not absorbed by the body.

Capsules - what are they made up of?
nzpurehealth capsules are all high quality capsules made from natural products. We use two types of capsule; soft and hard gel. The soft gel capsules are filled with liquids and are made from animal-based, NZFSA approved gelatine. The gelatine is of the highest quality and is vital to the encapsulation stage. The hard gel capsules are used for powdered products and may be one of three types: vege-caps, ocean caps and gelatine caps. nzpurehealth provides all three variations because we recognise the benefits of the new product option being developed.

Colostrum - What is IgG/the benefits?
Immunoglobulins (Ig) are proteins (also known as antibodies) produced by the immune system. They attach to foreign substance and disease-causing microbes (such as bacteria) in the body to assist in destroying and removing them. There are five classes of Ig’s: IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD and IgE, which play different roles within the body. In healthy people, IgA, IgG and IgM are the most prolific antibodies present. IgG antibodies are found in all bodily fluids and are the smallest but most common type of immunoglobulin found in the body. For this reason consumption of IgG is thought to assist in improved immune function and good health.

Colostrum - What is the concentration of IgG?
The 20% refers to the amount of IgG in the Colostrum that is used. So if you have 100g of pure Colostrum, you would expect 20g of IgG. In nzpurehealth’s Colostrum there is 36.40g of Colostrum in a 450g tin, which means there is (36.5/450*100) = 8.08% or 8.08g of Colostrum per 100g.

Colostrum Powder - What is the difference between the red and green label?
The product contents is exactly the same - the label colour red or green is the only difference.

Deer Velvet - How is it harvested?
New Zealand’s positively regulated deer industry is trusted for its commitment to farming excellence with an emphasis on animal welfare and management, and the traceability and sustainability of its products. nzpurehealth ensures that our deer products are harvested under humane conditions to protect and promote animal well-being. The animal is given a small amount of local anaesthetic before the antlers (velvet) are removed by a trained professional. The animals are not harmed in any way; infact early removal of the antlers prevents the injury of other animals during the mating season when stags often compete for dominance.

Deer Velvet - What is it? What are the health benefits? Does it improve sexual function?
Male deer or stags grow antlers which are deciduous, meaning that they fall off and re-grow each spring. Deer Velvet is the name given to the antlers during the early stages of growth, when the soft, cartilage-like tissue is covered with a furry coating. According to James Suttie, a researcher at AgResearch NZ, “Deer Velvet is a body supporter”. Probably because the established health benefits include; improved circulation, immunity to cold and flu, joint health, relief from arthritis, accelerated injury recovery, treatment of anaemia, and general well-being. The prepared powder can be used by people of all ages and has few known adverse effects. Recommended for centuries by traditional Chinese health practitioners to enhance male strength, stamina and virility, this complex nutrient does indeed offer many health-giving properties. Naturally, this would produce the added benefit of improved sexual function provided there is no underlying health issue.

How long should I take a health supplement?
The length of time a person should take a health supplement is dependent on many factors such as: • General state of wellbeing • Quality of diet • Level of fitness • Stress levels • Medical history • Lifestyle choices. Supplements should be taken in addition to a healthy diet, as the name suggests. Research has shown that supplements can add nutritional value and contribute to general well-being and good health. In fact, the American Medical Association (AMA) now recommends daily supplementation as a preventative measure against chronic disease, a bit like an insurance policy. Generally, if you are taking a supplement for a particular reason, then you should follow the instructions carefully. Iron supplements for example should only be taken when the level of haemoglobin in the blood is low (Anaemia) and dietary sources are insufficient. If, however you are on medication, have trouble absorbing nutrients from food or have a particular condition, then you may need to take supplements on an ongoing basis. If in doubt, consult your healthcare professional.
